18 & Under Sellersville Belles Gold

... is set for Saturday, September 23rd, 2006. It will be held at B. Earl Druckenmiller Playground on Maple Ave. in Sellersville PA, the home of the Sellersville Belles. This is the 3rd year for the "Thrilla in Sellersvilla." This year's "Thrilla...III" features 9 local Division III college softball teams; Alvernia, Arcadia, Eastern, Delaware Valley, Moravian, Gwynedd Mercy, Swarthmore, Chestnut Hill, and Ursinus. Games will start at 9:00 AM and continue through the day with the final game of the day at 7:00 PM under the lights featuring Knights of Arcadia University and the Greyhounds of Moravian College. The "Thrilla In Sellersvilla" was started 3 years ago after the NCAA ruled that Division III softball teams would be limited to one day of competition in the fall of the year. Since most colleges only have one field and could only probably play 2 different opponents in the course of a day, the Sellersville Belles decided to host a day of play. With 3 fields at Druckenmiller Park, 6 different teams can play at one time and there are lights so the day can also be extended. Paul Koehler, president of the Sellersville Belles, said "this is great for our area. It allows D III schools the chance to play more than one or two games. It also gives local players to see a level of college softball played in Sellersville. Finally it allows these college coaches to see their new Freshman on the field and also they can get recruits to come see them play in a local setting."
